Written by Jason James
The boys of Open House are shaking things up for their St. Valentine’s Day edition at Le Consulat.Miss Molly and Shaydakiss will add a little feminine flavor to the boys club which will no doubt make for a night of unforgettable music, dance floor shenanigans and of course another legendary Open House event.
All the DJ Ladies…Put your hands up!
Miss Molly
Jason James: How long have you been Dj’ing?
Miss Molly: I began "learning" how to mix in '98, I got my first gig in Richmond, Va. Over 10 years of playing in clubs from VA to MTL.
JJ: What sparked your interest in being a Dj? Influences…
MM: My influences early on, who inspired me were - Paul Johnson, Roy Davis Jr., Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Joe Claussel (& The Body & Soul Sundays), Masters At Work, (and many more) these guys were my heroes in the late '90's party scene. The funky fun bounce was addicting. It made me feel really happy, and just like that - BAM! I was a house head. Music touches everyone and is a universal language. I'm inspired to share good vibes with my listeners… I enjoy the ability to take someone on a musical journey, through time and space….and really goes deeper than words…. it is definitely "a soul feeling" that inspires me!!
JJ: What type of music do you play?
MM: A WIDE spectrum of house - the good stuff. Electric, tech, minimal, tribal, deep, funky, deep tech, etc. - there's so many different terms to describe the electric 4x4 beat, and those elements within it. I like to mix it up, keep it always connected to feeling. Some of my tracks could be described as techno, or even progressive. In my opinion, I play all of my favourite dance songs mashed into one mix.
JJ: What can we expect to hear from your set?
MM: You can expect to want to move your body
JJ: What’s in your future, ambitions, aspirations?
MM: In my future I hope to be able to balance my life better, I will continue to reach for my goals, and aspire to be excited to be in the here and now. I would like to take my DJ style to the next level by learning how to produce, and interlacing different types of music in my set, and have it all sound like it was supposed to be in the same mix- Mixing old with new. I aspire to connect more deeply to the music, and my soul within it.

SHAYDAKISS
Jason James: How long have you been DJ’ing?
Shaydakiss: I started DJ’ing seriously in Jan 2009 at a weekly night i was throwing for almost 3yrs called Teen wolf (at Blizzarts). i started by just doing the opening set and a few months later i was getting solo projects. I was always told by music teachers that I had an ear for music but never did much about it. till I just jumped on the turntables and gave it a shot.
JJ: What sparked your interest in being a Dj?
S: I have been involved with peer pressure since its inception in 2005 as a hostess and promoter so I've collaborated with and admired so much local and international talent. Back at home we always had turntables and records, so it's all very comfortable for me.
JJ: What type of music do you play?
S: I switch it up depending on the jam, but my sound usually revolves around funky house/disco club/afro Latin rhythm influences.
JJ: What can we expect to hear from your set?
S: Good vibes and dancing feet!
JJ: What’s in your future, ambitions, aspirations?
S: Working on my mix tape, developing shaydakiss.com and of course to keep being inspired, happy, and creative.
